The Artist As Alice: From A Photographer's Life is a fictional biography in verse beginning shortly after the Wonderland adventures. The poems---internal monologues, narratives, letters, journal entries and other documents trace Alice's childhood, adolescence, marriage and development as an artist. After the death of her husband, Alice learns the photographer's craft to support herself and investigates the art of photography to create a secret, imaginative world separate from her everyday life. The poems, in a variety of forms, alternate between the surreal, imagistic and ecstatic, and the ironic and mundane as Alice shifts uneasily back and forth from proper housewife to iconoclastic artist.
